Imagine! Social Security Politicized!

To the Editor:
Paul Krugman says that the Bush administration "politicized the Social Security Administration" ("Social Security Lessons," Aug. 15).
Earth to Paul: the Social Security Administration was created by politicians, is funded by taxpayers, and is run by bureaucrats. So it is, always has been, and will inescapably remain politicized. If political manipulation of Social Security truly disgusts Prof. Krugman, he should support efforts to transfer its functions to the private sector.
Sincerely,
