So Uncle Sam's lawyers are suing the tobacco industry for conspiring for fifty years to keep the public in the dark about the dangers of smoking ("U.S. Trial Against Tobacco Industry Opens," A3, Sept. 22). This conspiracy must surely be the most inept and ineffective one in human history.
